Frequently Asked Questions About Classical Homeopathy

What is classical homeopathy?

Classical homeopathy is an individualized system of healing that considers the whole person—physical, mental, and emotional—when selecting a remedy.

Rather than prescribing different remedies for different symptoms, the classical homeopath seeks to identify the single remedy that most closely matches the individual’s overall state.

People seek homeopathic care for a wide range of chronic and recurring health concerns, including anxiety, depression, panic, grief and trauma, fears and phobias, digestive difficulties, allergies, headaches, recurring pain, fatigue, and concerns involving sexual health and vitality.

Classical homeopathy does not focus on the diagnosis alone. Treatment is individualized according to the person being treated.

Homeopathic remedies are prepared from substances found in nature according to the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS). They undergo a specialized process of dilution and potentization.

Homeopathic remedies are generally considered safe and non-toxic when properly prepared and used. They are not habit-forming or addictive.

A central principle of classical homeopathy is to prescribe one carefully selected remedy at a time.

Using a single remedy allows me to observe clearly how you respond and determine what should happen next. Additional remedies are prescribed only when the case indicates that they are needed.

The initial consultation usually lasts 1½ to 2 hours. We will discuss not only your primary health concerns, but also your medical and personal history, energy, sleep, temperature preferences, fears, stresses, grief, traumas, emotional state, and other characteristics that help me understand you as an individual.

This detailed picture allows me to select the homeopathic remedy that most closely corresponds to your overall state.

There is no fixed timetable. The length of treatment varies according to the individual, the nature and duration of the health concerns, and how the person responds to the prescribed remedy.

Some changes may appear relatively quickly, while longstanding or complex conditions may require more time. Follow-up consultations allow me to evaluate your progress and determine the next step.

Sometimes a patient may experience a brief intensification of existing symptoms after taking a well-selected homeopathic remedy. This is traditionally referred to as a homeopathic aggravation.

If you notice a significant change or have concerns following a remedy, please contact me so that I can evaluate what is occurring and advise you appropriately.

Improvement is not judged by one symptom alone. I look at the person as a whole.

Often some of the earliest signs of improvement are a greater sense of wellbeing, better energy, improved sleep, greater emotional balance, or an increased ability to function—even before the main physical complaint has completely resolved.

At follow-up consultations, we evaluate these changes together to determine the direction of healing and whether the remedy should be allowed to continue acting or whether another step is needed.

Yes. Many people begin homeopathic treatment while taking prescription medications.

A homeopath does not prescribe, discontinue, or change medications prescribed by your medical doctor. Any decision to reduce, change, or discontinue a prescription medication must be made in consultation with the healthcare professional who prescribed it. Homeopathic treatment can proceed alongside conventional medical care.

Please contact me before taking a homeopathic remedy on your own whenever possible. New symptoms or an acute illness may be important in understanding how your treatment is progressing.

I will review what is happening and advise you whether to wait, whether the current remedy should be allowed to continue acting, or whether another homeopathic remedy is appropriate.

I will give you specific instructions for taking your remedy, including the dose and how often it should be taken. Because dosing is individualized, please follow those instructions rather than repeating a remedy on your own.

Store homeopathic remedies in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, strong odors, and other substances that could interfere with proper storage.
